Rest
I need lots of rest—mind, body, soul. I read this poem differently now than I have in previous years. It is from a book of poems given to me seven years ago. The “journey” spoken of is the journey to the cross through the season of lent. At a time when foundations have been shaken, my relations with self and others out of sort, this is where I want to be: resting in God…
Come Unto Me
When the journey gets too hard,
when we feel depleted,
when our compassion
turns to complaining,
when our efforts toward
justice and mercy
seem to get us nowhere,
it’s time to remember
the humility part—
that it is God who has made us
and not we ourselves;
that the saving of the world
or even one part of it
is not on our shoulders.
It is then we can come unto him,
and he will give us rest.
With rest we’ll remember
what it is we are about.— Ann Weems

Hey there, this poem is really beautiful. Could you tell me which book you found it from? I see that you are seeking for endless rest under the roof of God’s house, where you can feel endless love. I can tell you a place where you can permanently feel the creator’s love and where you can learn growing spiritually. It is actually your own pure will which gets you spiritually higher to God’s kingdom. This is a type of meditation and it really works. It is practised in more than 90 countries in the world. It is SahajaYoga meditation. Wherever you are living you can reach this place. You are not supposed to pay anything. It is free at everywhere, because we can not pay for God’s love. Thanks for your comment and recommendation on meditation.
The book is called, “Kneeling in Jerusalem” by Ann Weems through Westminster John Knox Press. It is a book of poetry for the Christian season of Lent, that leads up to easter and Jesus’s resurrection.
